EFT, The Tapping Cure – What is The Emotional Freedom Technique?

Prepare for a wonderful experience of self-improvement using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). If you are unfamiliar with the emotional freedom technique, here in this article we will discuss what EFT is and how it can be hugely beneficial to you.

What is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

The emotional freedom technique is a powerful tool to deal with negative emotions and pain. Many models of oriental medicine are based on the belief that there are energy channels in the body. It is believed that when these channels (called meridians) become blocked, energy becomes unbalanced. When this happens, it is believed to cause physical and emotional symptoms.

EFT, the emotional freedom technique, is also known as “tapping therapy”. It works like emotional acupressure, except that you stimulate well-established energy meridian points on your body by tapping them with your fingertips. This process is easy to remember and can be done anywhere, anytime. It quickly resolves the negative emotions and beliefs that are the root of your problems and difficulties.
Gary Craig is the founder of EFT and hosts an informative website with all the technical freedom training you could want. This is an easy technique that can be performed virtually anywhere. This treatment arose from the idea that “the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption of the body’s energy system”.

How does Emotional Freedom Technique work?

EFT presses the acupressure meridians to release blockages. When these blockages are released, the feeling of disruption can be released and move through the body. The process starts with an initial statement about the feeling of the problem and includes full acceptance and recognition of the problem.

EFT practitioners believe that negative emotions and illness are linked. Physical problems generate emotional responses, and emotional problems often manifest as physical symptoms. For this reason, it is important to approach healing in a holistic way, looking at both emotional and physical energy.

The emotional freedom technique aims to combat negative emotions as well as unbalanced or blocked energy. It does this by tapping the body’s meridian points, focusing on the problem, and repeating positive statements.
This combination of stimulating meridian points when thinking about the root causes enables the energy system to “align” itself. It is believed that the “short circuit” of the learned reaction or negative emotion is removed from the body.

The basic technique is to repeat a positive affirmation and then focus on the problem (e.g. fear) as you tap each meridian point. This is a very basic method, and a qualified EFT practitioner can advise you on variations based on what your own issues..

Methods of Emotional Freedom Technique Tapping

EFT will be useful and beneficial if we practice the tapping techniques. Gary Craig suggested 7 basic steps according to the EFT “recipe”. They are given below:

Realise the problem

First of all, you need to identify your problem. It can be physical or emotional, but focus on the problem that is preoccupying you.

Create a reminder phrase

After you identify the problem, write a short sentence that relates to your problem. Pin it in your head so that you stay focused for the rest of the process.

Rate the issue

Here you will need to rate the intensity of your problem on a 0 – 10 scale and understand how important the issue is.

Set-up your confirmation

Create an assertive statement that is positive. Repeat the statement often to make you feel better about your problem.

Perform the tapping sequence

The tapping process should cover all 8 meridian points on your body in sequence. The order is the top of the eyebrow, the side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, under the chin, under the collarbone, under the arm, and finally on the top of the head. The tapping should be very gentle, but it should be constant and firm. Touch with your tip and middle finger.

Re-evaluate the problem

Now re-rate your problem on a scale of 0 to 10. You should feel better after tapping.

Repeat the process

If you are still struggling with an issue after a few rounds of EFT, try changing your affirmation statement to a more positive one and repeat the process again.

Necessary EFT precautions.

This is an effective process with very promising results. However, it is not accepted as “standard treatment”. It is not effective for people with mental disorders as they cannot be treated with cognitive behavioural therapies. EFT can be used as an add-on treatment. It works effectively with additional combinations like a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, traditional therapy, meditations, and certain medications.

Advantages of the emotional freedom technique.

EFT offers many benefits for both the mind and the body; It reduces stress, tension, emotional imbalances such as depression and anxiety of the human mind and calms the soul. It also reduces fatigue, headaches, joint pain, and increases a person’s energy levels. EFT is very beneficial for athletes as it improves athletic performance, concentration, and coordination. The technique also improves a person’s quality of sleep by proving a deep sleep without tension. In short, EFT promotes a healthy body and mind.
